 Fighter Poll
Just wondering what people might swing towards on this board. I think MK will rate pretty high, but there are other excellent games out there. I hope the list is comprehensive enough. And if you vote please give us some reason why you made your selection. I'd really like to know why people chose what they do.
Just an example of some things I'd consider "others"... Bushido Blade, Fighting Force, Evil Zone, Cardinal Syn, Guilty Gear, Psychic Fighters, Mugen (according to recent data), Iron & Blood (I wonder if anybody knows this one besides Darlos), Jo Jo's Bizzare Adventure... etc.
BTW... the poll runs for 60 days.

 MORTAL KOMBAT
GO MORTAL KOMBAT!
I chose Mortal Kombat, because of my long time with it. To be honest, Mortal Kombat II was the first video game I ever played! The characters are awsome, the blood lust, and graphics rock, and it really teches a good lesson, as said in the MK3 tagline: "There is no knowledge, that is not power."
To me, that's what the game is all about. Besides, everyone in the game is smart. Even Shang Tsung, who appears to be the dumbest character.
Anyhoo, GO MORTAL KOMBAT!

Darkstalkers for me as well. The story is dark, twisted, and sexy. And any game with a cat-girl, a succubus, an Aussie-Rockstar-zombie, and the lord of vampires just KICKS ASS! The action was intense as well. Another game that I get dominated on, both by the computer and by other players. I got no skill at fighters that require anything more than maybe 3 buttons! heh heh heh
As for Guilty Gear, that was originally an option... on my list of 16 choices! The site didn't want more than 10. *shrugs* So I had to cut the choices that I knew would not be too familiar to most people. But I DID include the Gear in my selection of "others"! I know Darlo's loves the game. I also have the game and I know WHY he loves it! It kicks booty! If not for my total adoration of Morrigan I might have to give it to guilty Gear (which also has a pretty phenomenal plotline for such a game). Like I said, I tried to be comprehensive.

I'd have to say I've gotten the most entertainment out of Soul Calibur (one and two). While Guilty Gear and Melty Blood are loads of fun, I can't sit down and play around four hundred rounds with my friends in one sitting like I can in SC. <3

Street Fighter for me. Street Fighter was just a game to play to me until the Alpha series came out. Then it became more of a technique and drive to become unbeatable. That's when they kinda complicated things with specialized combos, alpha counters, compbo counters, throw reversals and all sorts of interesting things to spice up a fighting game. That's when Ryu and Ken sort of grew into their characters as well. After that SF went into a bit of a rut and then emerged with one of my favorite fighting games ever...SNK vs. Capcom. Not only do you get the fun of all the Street Fighter games, you get the entirety of the King of Fighters series as well. Terry Bogard introducing his fist into Ken's face and Ken returning with a burning uppercut is indeed a sight to behold. The other thing I really enjoy about street fighter is the balance...everyone is as perfectly balanced as possible. I have yet to see a fighting game so well balanced.
Second to Street Fighter, I'd have to say my second favorite fighting game series is a tossup between Tekken and Dead Or Alive. Tekken is just plain fun only to watch the horrifying joint-locks and bone breaks they pull. Practically makes me cry all by itself. Dead or alive is mainly just great stress relief. Not many games let you throw someone off an entire cliff face, but to make it even better, you jump right off after them (and magically land without turning into a pile of jell-o) to keep fighting. They've got some nasty bone-breaks too, but Tekken has always one-upped DOA.
Following that, I would have to vote for Guilty Gear for style. While wildly unbalanced (Before you respond Darlos, think of the girl with the guitar and her overly frustrating "ball attack(s)") it has interesting characters and plenty of goals to shoot for. I like unlocking characters and such. I also like the freeform combat. There are no combos per-se, but much like tekken, you can mix and match your attacks based on how fast the character can pull them off and how fast you can enter the commands.
Though I find it interesting that Dark Stalkers has most of the vote while it's been hardly mentioned in the posts here besides Jai's.

Also, if I may add Gamespot's review of Iron & Blood, here's the sentence used in the initial description:
2.5 (of 10.0)
terrible
If one word had to be used to sum up Iron and Blood, "laughable" would fit just fine. - Jeff Gerstmann
Though I haven't played it, I knew of it's reputation as one of the few games that Gamespot list as horrid before you even get to read the review. Usually they entice you to read at least some of the review before they destroy a game.

Good lord. If this board system allowed it, I was tempted to go right in and edit in a Guilty Gear choice.
If you've played Guilty Gear X2, you know it's a downright awesome game, no matter what your previous preferences may have been. Personally, I say it's the best 2D fighter out there. Probably, Soul Calibur 2 is currently the best 3D fighter. In Tekken, the characters seem too... "reserved." They kind of inch around the screen all slow-like. It kind of annoys me, to be honest. I prefer the SC guys who run around everywhere pretty quick.
Keep an eye out for Guilty Gear Isuka. It will be like GGX2 with really new stuff. First and foremost there can be up to 4 players at once Smash Bros. style. Secondly, it seems to have some sort of brawler game mode, kind of like Tekken force but... well, probably better. Oh, and there's a new character.

Well, Darkstalkers only has 2 votes. Jai and myself. So there is plenty of room for it to get lost. And I can't BELIEVE I forgot to list DOA!!! *smacks himself* I loved that game. And, well, I am a guy so why not make mention of Extreme Beach volleyball?! *wink wink, nudge nudge* heh heh heh
Yeah, Iron & Blood SUCKS MAD ASS!!! *chuckles* I got the game just because it was rated so bad.

"Sucks mad ass," lol. I like that phrase. My ass is angry!
Right, don't mind my musings.
I have trouble seeing Tekken reserved...at least not after 3 and 4. I didn't play any of the earlier ones, so I can't say much. It depends on the characters. Indeed most are bulky and slow to control, but several are quite agile and I use that as a strength. But then...I almost always chose the fastest character in any game. Can't hit what's no longer in front of your fist...
Problem is the fastest is usually weakest...

I liked Tekken for two reasons. Simple gameplay (it's a game that is kind to button-mashers like myself) and eye candy. And I don't mean just the chicks... though that always helps. But the characters had techniques that were just beautiful to watch. Tekken and Virtua Fighter were both good in that respect, games I liked to watch. DOA was better and the Soul Edge/Soul Calibur games are still my favorites in this regard.
I really only added most of these games because I knew that they had their popularity at the time. Why else would I give Killer Instinct a slot? And I slap myself for not adding Dead Or Alive. But it's an undersight I can forgive. I also wanted to give fair play to both 2d and 3d games. I would have been quite happy if the site allowed for more choices! heh heh heh
A part of me hopes that every game gets at least one vote. And I am quite relieved that MK does not dominate the votes. :) I love MK, the story was good enough to spawn a movie line after all (and I shudder at the Street Fighter movie... what a total slap in the face of us gamers THAT was). But the "ninja" craze drives me a little batty! And NOBODY throws elemental destruction like Ryo and Akuma! 'Nuff said?! Where's a new SF movie? Or, better yet, lets see a Soul Calibur movie! Or, dare I ever hope, a Guilty Gear film! That could be SOOO amazing, I can't even stand the desire. Of course, if they ever make such films and there are losers I'll be forced to castrate the director on general purpose! heh heh heh I don't need to pray for a Darkstalkers movie as that has been animated... and wasn't half bad (not great though). Better than the SF anime that I've seen. And the Toshinden anime just blew chunks!! The Samurai Showdown anime I have seen was on a rented VHS tape that broke about 10 minutes into the film. So I have no idea if it's worth the magnetic tape it's recorded on. But as far as I know there is nothing for Calibur and nothing on Gear either. *shrugs*
